Zhirayr Sefilyan, Head of the New Armenia Front Headquarters running against the Constitutional amendments, has encouraged the citizens to join the round-the-clock rallies that will commence on December 1.
Talking to reporters on November 30, Sefilyan said: "This time, we will return home only after the regime is overthrown. The people should be ready to round-the-clock protests. They should wear warm winter cloths and have with them the necessary food," he said. If anyone lacks this all, Sefilyan promised that the Headquarters will provide everything necessary to the people joining them.
"In addition, we are ready to provide transportation means and overnight stop to the residents of the regions who have no relatives in Yerevan," Sefilyan said. The politician said New Armenia will take everything possible not to let the police block the traffic from the regions. "I compare December 1 with the incidents of March 1 2008. However, the situation on December 2 will be different," he said. Sefilyan told reporters that New Armenia Headquarters informed the Municipality of its intention to set tents in the Liberty Square.
The politician said the prior goal of the rally is to make the authorities suspend the process of the Constitutional amendments, which, as he thinks, they have nearly managed to do. "These reform will spark instability in the country. The authorities and external forces understand this and they weigh cancellation of the referendum," he said. In his words, immediately after the first goal is achieved, a process of capitulation of the authorities will start. "Serzh Sargsyan will have to choose between the fate of Nikolae Chaushesku and Victor Yanukovich. If he refrains from violence, the last choice is more probable," Sefilyan said. "Even if they arrest me or my friends, the process cannot be stopped any longer. The authorities understand this. They know that we will continue our activity even from prison, as it is our last chance to change power through public disobedience," Sefilyan said.
To note, on November 26 Zhirayr Sefilyan, the head of the New Armenia Front's campaign headquarters, said that the Front will start termless round-the-clock actions of protest in Liberty Square. The constitutional referendum campaign kicked off on October 10. The referendum is scheduled for December 6.
