No one will allow Azerbaijan to resume military actions in the Karabakh conflict zone, Larisa Alaverdyan, first Ombudswoman of Armenia, Executive Director of the Fund Against Legal Outrage, member of the State Committee for POWs and Captives, told reporters, Wednesday.
"Azerbaijan is a colony of the British Petroleum. I have repeatedly said this. Lately, British Ambassador to Armenia Katherine Leach has confirmed this saying that the UK is against resumption of the military actions in the region, as the Kingdom has economic interests in Azerbaijan," Alaverdyan said. In this light, she said, Azerbaijan has nothing to do but make inadequate actions violating all possible international norms.
The human rights defender believes that Armenia's Armed Force must be on alert to rebuff Azerbaijan's raids and other provocations. Alaverdyan said she anticipates no positive changes in the Azerbaijani president's policy and pins no hope with the high-level meetings.
"These meetings just help defuse tensions for a while," the expert said.
Nevertheless, she is sure that Aliyev-junior's policy fundamentally differs from the flexible policy of his father who cared for the public opinion.
"The West's major goal is to oust Russia from all the projects in the region with help of Azerbaijan, but I think, that policy will not be a success, because neither Turkey nor Azerbaijan has ever been reliable partners," Alaverdyan said.
