On October 23 Air Armenia made its first passenger charter flight en route Rostov-on-Don-Yerevan. It is noteworthy that a bride and a bridegroom were among the first passengers. "This is a significant event for our company. A new family is being created and it is symbolical for us", Vahan Haroutyunyan, President of Air Armenia, said to the media in Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan.
He said that the regular flights to Moscow will be launched on October 27. These flights will be served by an A-320 twice a day. "We are launching regular passenger flights and we realize that passenger operations are a lot more difficult than cargo transportation, because we deal with people", he said.
Haroutyunyan said the air ticket prices considerably dropped as soon as Air Armenia entered the market of passenger operations. "By our estimations, the prices in the market have fallen by 25-30% for the destinations Air Armenia will make flights to, particularly, for the Yerevan-Moscow-Yerevan flights", he said. The company will make regular flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Sochi, Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don.
He added that in summer 2014 the company is going to expand the geography of its flights and to acquire additional planes on lease. By late 2013 the company is going to acquire two A-320 planes and a Boeing 737-500.
To note, Air Armenia CJSC was founded in April 2003. Before 2013 it carried out cargo transportation by air.
