The new public transport fare should remain unchanged, Galust Sahakyan, Head of the Faction of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), said at a press conference on Thursday. To note, Sahakyan is also reported to own a microbus line.
"The rise in the public transport fare will only allow ensuring the full-fledged operation of transport but will not influence the service quality", he said. He added that the spare parts for buses and microbuses have recently grown in price fourfold and the economic entities have to raise the transport fare. He also pointed out that the transport fare rise has nothing to do with the growth in gas tariffs.
Sahakyan thinks that it is necessary to adopt a law on transport, because it is incorrect to lay the whole responsibility for the price growth on Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan. Sahakyan thinks that Margaryan is a quite competent mayor. "Meanwhile, the Government of Armenia should work out social projects that will help overcome the current difficulties", he said.
When asked whether he is going to support the Free Car initiative, Sahakyan said that he does not want to do that because he has no desire to look better than he is.
He also brushed aside the opinion about the discrepancies within the RPA and the hostile attitude of some RPA members towards Taron Margaryan.
