Armenian Deputy Minister of Justice Arman Tatoyan is the candidate for Ombudsman from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
A source in the RPA has told ArmInfo that on Feb 3 Tatoyan met with Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Galust Sahakyan and Head of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Affairs Hovhannes Sahakyan.
To note, the Ombudsman's candidacy is to be endorsed by 1/3 of the Committee's members and then to be put up for vote in the Parliament. The opposition has advanced no nominee yet.
To recall, Karen Andreasyan has stepped down as the Human Rights Defender of Armenia without any explanations. However, according to the media reports, the authorities exerted pressure on him because of his tense relations with the Armenian President's son-in-law, Armenia's Ambassador to Vatican Mikayel Minasyan.
