Generally
speaking, the October 10 rally of the parliamentary “opposition troika”
did not revealed its goals. The next rally is scheduled for 24 October, but the
people have not been informed of the meeting agenda or any exact steps yet.
What are the goals of the “troika” and what steps do you anticipate from them?
Actually,
there is no movement or steps in the political field in Armenia. What is
happening now between the authorities and the "opposition" can be
qualified as, to put it mildly, political masturbation. We live in the times of imitations. As a film
director, not only in politics I can see imitations, but also in life in all
its manifestations. For instance, modern music is, typically, imitation. In a
very popular program, people make up to look like other people and sing with
their voice. Meanwhile, music is one of the most genuine displays of the
time. There are no ideas in literature,
cinematography. There is complete, creeping, crass post-modernism that is
reflected in remakes with direct citations from literature, music, and
politics.
What is
the brightest example of that political post-modernism?
The
senseless and ruthless attempt of the Kremlin to reproduce the Soviet Union is
the brightest example of political post-modernism. Consequently, Russia's
vassals, including Armenia, must play the role of the Soviet-time district
committee secretaries. But, at one and the same time, all of them need to
demonstrate adherence to the western values or they will get no more money from
Europe. That's why the Armenian authorities are forced to play a dual role and
to imitate support for mutually exclusive systems. As part of this
post-modernism, Armenia's political elite imitates processes. And there are always people who
still
believe that the earth is flat and, consequently, trust the 'opposition' and
participate in their rallies, after all, they are paid for that. The Third
Republic of Armenia is like one of lots of smalls matryoshkas inside a bigger
one with the evil grimace of a new Soviet Union. Armenia is no longer existent
as a state. We have neither government nor opposition. We are no longer
independent, with our authorities doing what they in the Kremlin are telling
them to do. In other words, since Oct 10
Armenia's unofficial president has been Russia's Ambassador Ivan Volynkinю
You have
mentioned that the authorities imitate democracy; otherwise the West ‘will not
give money.’ Which is the opposition’s goal in that game?
In this
game, as always, the opposition seeks power i.e. money. Now, the Armenian
opposition not just seeks money,
but is
ambitious of money, because the authorities are used to give money instead of
sharing their power. We have witnessed
that before and are witnessing it now. However, the situation has aggravated
and it is no longer so easy to take money from two
"cashier's
windows" like it had been accepted in Armenia for 20 years. Both the
cashiers, the Russian and the Western ones, have
closed
their windows and give money very rarely and very unwillingly. That is,
figuratively speaking, the situation in Armenia has become complicate also
after we linked our Noah's Arc to Russia's sinking Titanik that is still
selling tickets. I think the people in power in Armenia are more informed than
we and are well-aware what is taking place.
Not
figuratively speaking…
Literally,
the 20th century of oil - the reason of the most world and other wars - is
ending. We can see cars functioning not on petrol even in Yerevan.
Technologically, the 20th century is ending, and the political and
aesthetic appearance will come later. However, in this light, Armenia even
today has chances for better future. However, it appears that
these
changes will not be used again. Today
Armenia is facing the same tragic situation as it did in 1918-1920. The problem
is that having been put out of law by the world community, the key sponsor of
the Armenian authorities, the Russian
special
services, are naturally reaching for another outlaw. The
closest one
to them is Turkey.
More
about it, please…
Today both
Russia and Turkey are in opposition to the western civilization and so they
have common
grounds:
Russia is offering Turkey cheap oil in exchange for agricultural products and
cheap imitations of European brands. And
this
economic exchange is pushing them towards political bargains. Erdogan and Putin have already signed a
secret pact
similar to
the one signed by Molotov and Ribbentrop. But this time the victim will be not
Poland as was the case in 1939 but Armenia as in 1920. And the longer we remain
under the influence of Russia and Turkey, the closer the disaster will be. And
this time we will pay in other lands.
The preparatory work is over: almost 2,000,000 Armenians have already
left the country, while the rest are just holding demonstrations instead of
showing resistance.
You have mentioned threats of Armenia’s
accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). Both the supporters and the
opponents of Serzh Sargsyan claim that the decision to join the EEU had no
alternative. Do you think that there is really no alternative to Russia when it
comes to security of Amenia and
Karabakh?
You always
have a choice between different security systems. Serzh Sargsyan is expert on
security, so, it is not for me instruct him on it. He is perfectly aware that
security is a multi-vector system, and the more props and anchors it has, the
better it works.
It is
generally known that a chair with four legs is steadier than one with three
legs. As far as Armenia is concerned, today it is like a stool revolving on one
leg up and down. This type of security is not security but a state crime.
Today
Armenia is facing the threat of losing its status of a state. In such a vital
situation you cannot let one person
decide your
fate, especially when that person has no authority to do so. As to our people,
they seem to be shocked and to find no
strengths
to resist. But if things continue developing the way they are developing now,
everything will end very badly. The ruling regime is beginning to openly
terrorize the people. So, sooner or later the people will revolt and those who
have come into power through bloodshed will go in the same way.
