Tbilisi. "Goodbye, Mr. President" - a farewell
tribute to Georgian President, Mikheil Saakashvili, who is completing his second
term of presidency this month, will be organized on the initiative of the
"Patriots" public movement, outside the presidential residence in
Tbilisi, on October 25.
"The even aims at paying tribute to
Mikheil Saakashvili for the positive things that his ruling has brought, as
well as to show to the international community that we, the citizens of
Georgia, keep a clear head and appreciate that positivity and progress that
Georgia has achieved during Saakashvili's presidency. It will be a symbolic
event and we call on all interested individuals to join us," the
"Patriots" public movement's Facebook page reads.
Presidential elections in Georgia are
scheduled for October 27. Under the Georgian Constitution, Mikheil Saakashvili
will not be able to run in the presidential race, since he was elected
President of Georgia for the second time in 2008. At the same time, as he has
frequently stated, he is going to stay in politics after his term of presidency
expires.
Following October 1, 2012, parliamentary
elections, the pro-presidential party United National Movement (UNM) has lost
its positions and has moved into opposition.
