Pre-Parliament Spokesperson Varuzhan Avetisyan says the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) might be behind release of civic activist Dmitry Haroutiunyan. He told media, Monday, the measure of restraint against the activist has been changed.
The Yerevan court of general jurisdiction of Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun districts granted the investigator's motion to confine an activist, a member of "Pre-parliament" civil initiative, Dmitri Harutyunyan, and sentenced him to a two-month preliminary confinement. The 32-year-old military physician Harutyunyan was detained when protesting against construction of a residential building in Komitas Street. He was suspected in committing violence against a state representative. Later on September 7, he was set free. Local media outlets say he was set free due to interference of his mother, a member of the RPA Women's Council.
"I don't know, maybe, Haroutiunyan was set free thanks to his mother's efforts. No one will get to know, I think. Anyway, I am happy to see that a groundlessly retained man has been set free," Avetisyan said. "Although the troika of the force structures, criminal elements and deceitful political forces fight against citizens, the wave of public protests is growing every passing minute, which may lead to a new page in the history of the country," he said.
According to Avetisyan, some separate politicians from different parties deserve to be respected, but all the other parliamentary and non-parliamentary political forces are playing a false game and are part of the ruling regime.
