The referendum in Crimea has put Armenia in a very complicated situation, European expert Jos Boonstra said during the conference on NATO partnership in the South Caucasus held in Yerevan on Thursday.
He said that Armenia is again faced with a choice: the country has not yet joined the Customs Union and besides Crimea it will face lots of other obstacles in this way.
Boonstra believes that the seizure of Crimea from Ukraine may ruin the Eurasian integration projects. Thus, Russia may have to pay a very high price for Crimea.
During his Wednesday phone talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that the Crimean referendum is one more example of a nation having exercised its right to self- determination.
The conference on NATO partnership in the South Caucasus was organized by the Spectrum Center for Strategic Analysis with the support of NATO and was attended by experts from the South Caucasus, the United States, Russia, Turkey, Iran, the UK and Spain.
