Construction of residential buildings on Komitas Street in Yerevan has been stopped over public protests, Tigran Khzmalyan, a member of the Pre-Parliament Civic Movement, well-known film director, told ArmInfo.
"It is very important that representatives of almost all the public movements, including 'Let's Pay 100 drams' joined us along with representatives of Heritage Party and Armenian National Congress. Residents of other districts who have ever faced illegal construction also joined us," Khzmalyan said. He said that the municipal authorities and law-enforcers realized that they dealt with a civic society and not just few citizens.
To recall, the residents of the building No.5 in Komitas Street had been protesting against construction activities that have occupied their backyard for a long time already. The residents and the law-enforcers clashed overnight. In the wake of those clashes, Khzmalyan was detained but set free in few hours.
