Some one hundred employees of Nairit non-profit organizations have gathered in front of the Energy Ministry early in the morning today waiting for Minister Armen Movsisyan to demand their wages from.
Citing Nairit employees, ArmInfo's correspondent on the spot reports that the plant has arrears of wages for a period of one year. People are just promised to get their wages for months. The two-third of Nairit employees do not come to work, instead the others do also their work. Many employees have no funds for transport costs.
Nairit plant was the only producer of chloroprene rubber in the USSR. In 1989 it was closed due to ecological reasons. The plant re-started its operations in 1992-1993. In 2001 production capacities necessary for the production of chloroprene rubber were separated from "Nairit". In 2006, 90% of the shares of "Nairit" were sold to British Consortium Rhinoville Property Limited for 40 million US dollars. Rhinoville Property Limited holds 89,999% shares in the plant, the Armenian Ministry for Energy and Natural Resources holds 10%. The Government has been searching a strategic investor in the plant for many years already.
