The Russian State Duma deputies from the Communist Party Valery Rashkin and Sergei Obukhov have appealed Russian President Vladimir Putin with a proposal to renew operations of a signal intelligence center in Lourdes (Cuba) and place Russian missiles there in order to protect the interests of Russia and its allies in the CSTO, according to RIA news agency. Referring to Reuters, RIA writes Washington intends to place HIMARS missile launchers in the southeast Turkey this May. "It is worth noting that the performance characteristics of the above weapons, according to available data, make it possible among other things to use missiles with a range of up to 500 km. Thus, it is a potential threat to Russian allies in the CSTO (primarily Armenia)," the appeal reads. According to Russian deputies, in order to protect the interests of Russia and CSTO allies, it is necessary to take comparable measures in response to the "U.S. offensive action." First of all, the Russian lawmakers offer deploying Russian launchers with a similar, or even greater, range in Cuba and giving "an asymmetrical response to Washington by restoring a Lourdes SIGINT Station."
