At an online press conference with ArmInfo Moldavian Parliament deputy and politologist Bogdan Tsirdya said that Moldova's association with the EU did not foster settling the problems with Russia.
"First of all, the problem depends on the Transnistria conflict settlement. Russian welcomes the concept of a federation, meanwhile, Moldova favours the unitary state idea. Transnistria favours confederal union or even independence of Kishinev. Moldova aspires the withdrawal of Russian peacemakers, turning the peacemaking mission into a civil one with the participation of the UN, EU and NATO", he said.
He also spoke of the Gagauzian problems. Gagauzia is a Russian-friendly region. In 2014 90% of the Gagauzian population voted for the region's accession to the Customs Union. The Moldavian ruling pro- European party reduced 17-fold the investments into the Gagauzian economy in 2008-2013.
According to the politologist, Russian language is another problem. In 2014 the Moldavian government adopted a new education code, according to which Russian was no longer a compulsory subject at Moldavian schools. Moreover, the Moldavian Democratic Party is drafting a bill on prohibiting broadcasting channels that have not signed the European convention. This means that literally no Russian TV channel is to be broadcast on Moldavian TV. "According to the Federal Migration Service, currently there are 500.000 Moldavian citizens working in Russia. Other statistics shows 700.000 Moldavians. After the Moldavian government signed the agreement with the EU, many were deported from Russia for they were violating the Labour and Migration Legislation of the Russian Federation. Thus, about 200.000 Moldavians, who have somehow violated the law, are possible to lose their jobs", he said.
