According to the preliminary data, positive tendency on growth of the commercial reserves of crawfish in Lake Sevan was fixed in the current year.
Director of Hydroecology Institute under Armenia's National Academy of Science, Evelina Gukasyan, said at today's press-conference that in 2012 the commercial reserves of crawfish was 850 tons. Experts permitted to fish 220 tons out of 850. She also added that the tendency of stabilization of the crawfish reserves was noticed for the last years and even increasing of the permitted fishing level cannot hinder that.
Gukasyan positively assessed fulfillment of the programme on raising of the level of Sevan, thanks to which the indices of the water transparency grew. At the same time, experts worry about the situation in the rivers which run into Lake Sevan. In particular, the work of the small power plants as well as draining of the rivers where fish are spawning, hinder natural reproduction of certain types of fish.
