Armenia should not be compared with Azerbaijan as far as freedom of speech and human rights are concerned, former Human Rights Defender of Armenia Larisa Alaverdyan told ArmInfo on Friday.
"We should compare ourselves with countries that have much better results in this sphere," Alaverdyan said.
Concerning the Azeri President's misleading speech at PACE, she said that what matters here is not what he says but how his words are interpreted.
"In Armenia the human rights situation is not perfect. Quite recently we all witnessed how our police applied force against peaceful protesters. For a country wishing to be part of the European values such things are simply inadmissible," Alaverdyan said.
