At European Francophone Parliamentary Assembly 's meeting on March 31, Armenian National Assembly's Speaker Galust Sahaykyan said that by negating the Armenian Genocide Ankara is distorting the historical truth and is sowing ethnic discord.
"On April 24 2015 Armenia and the whole progressive mankind will be commemorating the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. 100 years ago the Turkish government started annihilating and deporting the Armenian population from their ancestral territory. The issue of recognizing and condemning this dreadful crime is vital nowadays for there is still the menace of genocides", he said. He also said that Ankara's negation policy pose a serious threat.
Head of the European Regional Session Jean-Paul Wahl also subjected Anakara's position to criticism. He believes that the policy impedes the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey. "Ankara's aggressive statements add oil to the flame and can possibly escalate the situation", he said.
Wahl said he would participate in the April 24commemoration events in Yerevan. "It is a very important day to all of us. We believe that Turkey's celebration of Gallipoli Battle Victory will not manage to cast into the shade the importance of Yerevan events. We will never forget Armenia", said Jean-Paul Wahl.
