The Armenian-Turkish protocols are on the agenda of the Turkish Parliament. Subsequently, the process of normalization of the bilateral relations is still going on, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in Washington.
According to Ermenihaber, Davutoglu said that Ankara establishes relations with its neighbors with due regard for the principle "friends and potential friends", not "friends and enemies". Davutoglu pointed out three aspects of Armenian-Turkish reconciliation: mutual respect between the neighbors, settlement of historical disputes between Armenia and Turkey, and establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Turkish Foreign Minister thinks that the reconciliation process will be successful if these three demands are implemented simultaneously. He stressed that Turkey has an immense desire to normalize its relations with Armenia.
To recall, on 10 October 2009 the Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministers signed the Armenian-Turkish protocols in Zurich. The protocols were to be ratified by the two countries' Parliaments. On 7 December 2009 Turkey linked the Armenian-Turkish normalization process to the Karabakh peace process and laid down a number of preconditions. On 22 April 2010 Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan suspended the process of ratification because of Turkey's preconditions.
