Drivers' embarrassment may cost human lives, says the press release of the Armenian Police.
The source says that on July 22, around 11 am, a group of people violated the traffic rules in various parts of Mashtots Avenue and fastened various statements on the windscreens of the microbuses. "These people not only disturbed public peace, but also ignored the fact that the safety of our citizens depends on the moral and psychological state of the drivers making passenger operations", the source says. The Police warn that the drivers' embarrassment may lead to undesirable and even tragic consequences.
The source adds that the police are tolerant to the protesters. In the meantime, the police warn that all those who violate the law will be brought to responsibility.
To note, on July 20 the public transport fare rose from 100 AMD to 150 AMD for buses and microbuses. Trolleybus fare is 100 AMD instead of 50 AMD, and the metro fare remains unchanged (100 AMD). This decision of the Municipality has caused public discontent, especially among the youth who have set up "We Won't Pay 150 AMD" initiative.
