Ryanair, a major European low-cost air company, denies its interest in making flights to Armenia. When asked by ArmInfo's correspondent whether the company is negotiating on launching flights to Yerevan, Ryanair spokesperson Michelle Lowe says that Ryanair is not going to comment on rumors or speculations.
To note, during a press conference on Dec 10, Arman Khachatryan, CEO of the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, said that within the new open skies concept "at least one cost-effective air company" will launch flights to Armenia in spring 2014. Khachatryan said that the air ticket prices in that company will be low, and the company will make flights to 10 cities of Europe. However, he failed to specify who is the founder of the company, whether the state has a share in it and whether the company has already been granted a license. As early as in late 2011, Marcelo Wende, General Manager of Armenia International Airports CJSC (concessionaire of Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan), told the media that Ryanair, an Irish low-cost air carrier, showed interest in Armenia. That information made the Armenian media outlets suppose that Arman Khachatryan meant the Irish low-cost company at the Dec 10 press conference.
