Let's hope that already this year the sides will manage to launch negotiations on implementation of mechanisms for investigation of incidents on the Line of Contact, OSCE Chairperson-in Office, German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated at the joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on June 29.
According to him the negotiations between the sides have intensified and they are aimed at preventing increase of tensions in the zone of Karabakh conflict witnessed by international community earlier in April.
Till now no way of the conflict settlement acceptable for both sides has been found, but probably wrong methods were chosen. Certainly we have expectations both from Armenia and Azerbaijan. I suppose first and foremost it is necessary to observe the ceasefire regime. April events should force as to find in the nearest future an acceptable way out from the current crisis, German Foreign Minister stressed.
According to him April events have demonstrated that further maintenance of status quo is inadmissible and may lead to new outbreak of violence. Steinmeier expressed assurance that the sides of the conflict should increase efforts for reaching long-term and comprehensive peace and Germany as a chairing country in OSCE considers this issue as one of its priorities since the first days of chairmanship.
Clarifying what issues will be discussed during his visit to Azerbaijan the OSCE Chairperson-In-Office noted that ways for establishing security and stabilizing the situation should be found and these issues will be on the agenda.
To note, after his visit to Yerevan German Foreign Minister will visit Azerbaijan and hold meetings with its leadership.
