The
local tensions on the Armenian-Azeri border and the Nagorno-Karabakh- Azeri
contact line will hardly cause a new war, hero of the Nagorno-Karabakh war, the
commander of the Shushi liberation operation Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan told ArmInfo
on Monday.
He said that the Azeris are not ready for a new war. "Oil
dollars and rich allies encourage them but they still have no capacities for
starting a war. Just a month ago there was a pretext for a new war: the Armenians captured a high point in
Sisian region but the Azeris did nothing in response. Everybody is aware that if a new war starts, it will involve not
only Armenia and Azerbaijan but also the great powers and Turkey. I don't think
anybody needs such a thing today," Ter-Tadevosyan said.
He believes that special systems must be installed on
the contract line to record who and when broke the cease-fire regime. "Armenia
cannot afford such systems. Azerbaijan
will gain nothing from them. So, it is
the world community who must do something to this end," Ter-Tadevosyan
said.
He is sure
that the OSCE Minsk Group will not make any statement on the last Azeri raid in
Karvachar. "Even if they make a statement it will be addressed to both
parties. They are unwilling to interfere in the conflict. They want the parties
to come to terms on their own. But
considering the existing contradictions, this is not something we can expect in
the near future," Ter-Tadevosyan said.
