The Ombudsman's Office received numerous complaints in connection with the incident at the Komitas street on 24 August, the statement by Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan says.
Karen Andreasyan will send a petition to the police in connection with the incident near the construction site. "I am especially disappointed with non-professional, emotional and irregular behavior of some policemen. In his statement, Ombudsman expressed concern over law enforcers' actions towards the activists, including use of violence against an activist Argishti Kiviryan (coordinator of Armenia Today -editorial).
"As for the abuse and resistance to authority by individual citizens, the courts will give assessment of their actions. Unfortunately, few expect an honest investigation under the current judicial system. The causes of arbitrariness and illegal behavior often cause the distrust of citizens to a fair trial," the statement says. "We also express solicitude regarding the beating up of the participants in the protest action in front of the Yerevan Mayor's Office - Mihran Margaryan and Babken Ter-Grigoryan, and hope that law-enforcement agencies will conduct an impartial investigation, as a result of which the true culprits will be found and brought to responsibility", - the statement by the ombudsman says.
