Armenia's parliamentary forces have made a joint statement concerning the growing tensions on the Armenian-Azeri border and the contact line between the Nagorno-Karabakh and Azeri armies.
In their statement the Republican Party of Armenia, the ARFD, Prosperous Armenia, Heritage, Orinats Yerkir and the Armenian National Congress express belief that by its continuing attempts to penetrate the Armenian territory Azerbaijan is trying to undermine the Nagorno- Karabakh peace process, which is contrary to the principles of the world community and the peacemaking efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.
In this light, the parties urge the MG to take real steps to remove snipers from the contact line and the border, to investigate the recent incidents and to prevent calls for interethnic hostility.
The parties also call on the world community and some foreign governments to refrain from general assessments and to condemn Azerbaijan's attempts to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by means of force. They also urge the world to stop selling arms to the opportunist Azeri authorities.
The parties noted that if the Azeris persist in their non-constructive policies, they will face the consequences. "The Armenian people and army have proved that they are able to protect Armenia and Nagorno- Karabakh. Our parliamentary forces are unanimous in their commitment to support our armed forces," says the parties.
