The capabilities of telehealth in Armenia are being expended thanks to the sponsor support of Rastelecom and launching of the video-conference service.

As director general of GNC-ALFA (subsidiary of Rostelecom), Hayk Faramazyan, told journalists today, the Library and "Hayastan" All-Armenian Fund offered GNC=ALFA to develop telehealth in the republic. The company expressed readiness to sponsor the programme. "We have expressed readiness to sponsor the programme, as we have a well-developed infrastructure. We have recently introduced the video-conference service in the republic, which allows residents of Armenia and foreigners to participate in it without making serious investments, which is a privilege if compared with the currently acting technologies", - Faramazyan said. He also added that Rostelecom has an opportunity to work both through the Internet and data transmission network, and allows 50 persons simultaneously to take part in the video-conference. Faramazyan said that this is very much convenient for delivery of lectures and sharing experiences, as well as for the mobile treatment when a patient cannot come to Yerevan from the far away regions of Armenia. Faramazyan said that this is a pilot programme and in future the company is going to extend the geography of video-conferences and also use them for the presentations and other events.
Microsurgeon Gevorg Yagjan told journalists that first the telehealth programme started in 2007 when telecommunucation was established with physicians of
Nagornyy Karabakh. He also added that today the video-conference system of Rostelecom is the best in the market. For this reason, the company was offered to sponsor the programme. The system is interactive, and makes it possible to use slides and gold consultations.
