The Yerevan mayor's decision on the public transport fare growth is ungrounded. Moreover, all the clarifications about that issue are illogical, Secretary of Heritage Party Stepan Safaryan said at a press conference in Yerevan on Monday.
"If we come to an agreement with the Prosperous Armenia Party, we will convene an extraordinary session of the Yerevan Elders' Council to consider the lawfulness of the given actions", he said.
He thinks that it will be hard to convene such a session, but will be possible to do that with the citizens' pressure and the mass media's support. He expressed hope that some representatives of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, who are really concerned with the fate of their citizens, will support Heritage. "Unfortunately, Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan has not responded to the current situation in the city yet. Moreover, he does not comment on the decision, because he simply evades responsibility", he said.
Safaryan added that the Barev Yerevan bloc is also going to apply to court against the decision on public transport fare growth, because the members of the bloc, as representatives of the Elders' Council, have not seen the relevant document adopted by the mayor. "Certainly, the Municipality of Yerevan protects the interests of the transport service owners, and the mayor and his relatives are such owners, too" Safaryan said. He added that Barev Yerevan totally supports the civil population's fight.
To note, mass actions of protest started in Yerevan on July 20 against the Government's decision on the public transport fare growth by 50 AMD.
