Leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan's running for president in 2018 depends on the parliamentary elections in 2017, Deputy Director of the Caucasus Institute, political expert Sergey Minasyan said at today's press conference in Yerevan.
He said that in 2017 the PAP obtains the majority of votes during the parliamentary elections, Tsarukyan will run for president, however, if the PAP manages to take away the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, Tsarukyan will be the only candidate from the PAP.
Meanwhile, Minasyan stressed that the ruling party has some problems with the candidacy for Sargsyan's successor. Otherwise, the "promotion" of the candidate would have been launched long ago. "The names of Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan are mentioned, however, there is no final decision and everything will depend on the parliamentary elections", he said.
