As far as we know there was not price negotiation between Ukraine and the EU for freedom of Yulia Timoshenko, says Hanna Shelest, Senior Researcher, National Institute for Strategic Studies (Odessa) in response to ArmInfo's question in an online interview.
"The topical issues of the negotiations were Timoshenko's release/treatment, the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, the Law on Election, and anti-corruption activities. Timoshenko issue is more complicate than just a financial compensation. Some politicians are really afraid of her release. That is why, bargaining on Timoshenko issue sought to keep her from running for president in 2015," she said.
Shelest believes that Kyev suspended the negotiations for the Association with the EU with Russia's stance. She thinks that Moscow exerted pressure on Kyev introducing new unfounded customs rules and imposing a ban on import of Ukrainian products, as well as by customs inspection of cargoes, act8ve information campaign etc:
