Knowing that the Eurasian Union has become a pet project for Vladimir Putin, Ilham Aliyev will try to get as much preferences as he can from the Baku meeting with the Russian president in the matter of the Karabakh settlement, political expert, Agasi Enokyan, said at today's press-conference.
"Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan is not going to sign an Association Agreement with Europe. However, from the global point of view, it is beneficial for Moscow to preserve the conflict in its present status-quo. For its part, Baku will use its preserving for the propaganda purposes. So, Putin's visit will, first of all, touch on the Russian-Azerbaijani relations, the key issue of which is a problem of Russia's presence in Azerbaijan", - he said.
Enokyan thinks that it is not principle for Moscow, if their military presence will be implemented through the Gabala radar station or the presence of Russian peacemakers. However, taking into consideration the fact that Azerbaijan will not make concessions in this matter, the settlement of the Karabakh conflict without the Russian military presence will finally mitigate and negate the levers of Russia's influence upon Baku, he said.
