The Georgian Military Road, which links Georgia to Russia, has completely been cleared in Daryal Gorge. The specialists have launched recovery work on the highway, News Georgia reports with reference to the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.
To remind, last week the Devdorak Glacier caused mudslide in the Daryal Gorge and blocked the Georgian Military Road. The Kazbegi/Upper Lars Checkpoint was closed.
"Due to the round-the-clock measures, the highway is completely cleared and the repairing and bank protection work is underway", says the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure. In the meantime, measures are being taken to clear the Lars Checkpoint as well.
To note, the Georgian Military Road is of much significance to Armenia, since it ensures land communication with the Russian Federation in transit via Georgia. On August 21, the Armenian Government offered Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili its assistance in liquidation of the mudslide consequences on the Georgian Military Road.
