Ex Foreign Minister of Armenia, MP Vartan Oskanian admitted on July 19 that he had spent for own needs $250,795 out of the money provided by Hunstman Foundation to his Civilitas Foundation for charity, reports the press service of the National Security Service of Armenia.
Oskanian explained that he thought that that sum was his share in the deal. At the same time, he admitted that he had certain tax obligations related to the money and expressed readiness to pay them. According to Oskanian, his only fault was that he regarded his own savings and the funds provided to his foundation as one whole and spent part of the money for own needs. But he assured the investigators that it was just a financial omission rather than an attempt to misuse the money.
Following Oskanian's request, the National Security Service calculated that he had to pay 20,140,324 AMD in taxes. Oskanian paid the money on July 23.
As a result, the Service recalled its money laundering charge against Oskanian and discontinued his case.
