Tbilisi. Georgia wants to be a strong link in economic
relations between the West and the East, head of the Georgian government
Bidzina Ivanishvili stated at the conference in Tbilisi, on Thursday, May 16.
According to the premier's press-service's
information, regional economic integration
in the South Caucasus and Central Asia is in the focus at the
conference, which has been organized by the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Lynne Tracy attended
the conference.
"The transit corridor East-West is a
strategic issue and it determines to a greater degree a role of Georgia and the
whole our region in global economy. Georgia wants to be a strong link in economic relations between the West and
the East. Our aim is to create a modern, strong trade transit center, which
will promote trade between the West and the East", Ivanishvili stated at
the conference.
According to him, to achieve this
objective, Georgia should work in three trends - to improve transport
infrastructure, ensure attractive business climate and cooperate fruitfully
with neighbors.
"The transit corridor development is
Georgia's natural strategic interest", Ivanishvili noted.
