Tbilisi. U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Richard
Norland, believes that the Head of Georgian Government, Bidzina Ivanishvili,
will abandon his post only upon ensuring maximum political stability in the
country.
In his recent interview with the Estonian
The Postimees newspaper, Ivanishvili stated about his intention to leave
politics after October 2013 presidential elections. As he explained on Sunday,
June 23, the government would no longer need his assistance after the
presidential elections. He, however, will leave politics only when the Georgian
people would need that.
"The Prime Minister has made it clear
that he is going to leave the post after certain period of time. However, he is
going to do that only upon ensuring maximum political stability in the country.
Ivanishvili is aiming at developing democracy in the country," Ambassador
Norland told journalists on Monday, June 24.
Georgian President, Mikheil Saakashvili,
termed Ivanishvili's intention as 'inconsiderate and quick'.
Soon after Ivanishvili-led Georgian Dream
coalition's victory in October 1, 2012, parliamentary elections in Georgia,
Ivanishvili stated that in a year-and-a- half, he was going to leave politics
and shift to the civil society. Later, in May this year, Georgian Premier said
he would stay in politics until the Georgian people would need that.
