The Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center has applied to the Ethics Commission for High Ranking Officials over the issue of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan. Radio Azatutyun reports that Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Executive Director of the Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, has asked Chairman of the Commission Emil Babayan to find out whether the mayor of Yerevan was "in the situation of a conflict of interests or risk of a conflict of interests when making the decision on the public transport fare rise".
He has also asked Babayan to find out if "the mayor used his position and powers when managing investments".
Earlier the Yerevan Municipality published the list of public transport line owners. According to the list, Robert Taron LLC serves the microbus lines No5 and No32. Some media report that the company belongs to Taron Margaryan and his brother-in-law Robert Sargsyan.
If the Ethics Commission launches proceeding, it will have to make a decision within a month. No official has yet been dismissed due to the conflict of interests on the basis of the Commission's decision.
