It is difficult to speak of freedom where Belarus and Russia are, political expert Stepan Grigoryan said at a press conference in Yerevan on Wednesday.
"We are going to join the unfree Customs Union, which will give nothing to Armenia. As for the European Union, it wanted to give Armenia a chance to become a legal state. It's another question whether we would have used it or not", said the expert. When forecasting the results of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, Grigoryan said: "I don't think Armenia will sign any document at the Summit. But I understand the stance of the EU that states the impossibility to sign the Association Agreement amid Armenia's accession to the Customs Union", he said.
Grigoryan thinks that after the summit in Vilnius, the European Union will consider the possible ways of Armenia-EU cooperation. When commenting on Armenia's statement about its willingness to continue the cooperation with the EU, the expert stressed that the Armenian authorities wanted to dampen the discontent of both their society and Europe. "But the decision on accession to the Customs Union will have a negative effect on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Azeri propaganda will unambiguously intensify in European organizations", he said.
