Armenia participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 8-12.
Armenian Deputy Minister of Culture Nerses Ter-Vardanyan said at today's briefing that the Armenian pavilion caused a great interest among the guests and participants. Armenia exhibited hundreds of books in both Armenian and foreign languages, including albums and books dedicated to the Armenian art and culture.
Ter-Vardanyan said that two books were presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair, namely "The Mandylion" (in Armenian, Russian and English) by Armenia's Ambassador to Germany Vahan Hovhannisyan, and "Cooking journey around Armenia" (in Armenian and German) by Susanna Sargsyan.
The Armenian pavilion also featured books on the Armenian Genocide in foreign languages. The event included discussions on the role of literature in prevention of genocide. Ragip Zarakolu, a Turkish human rights activist and publisher living in Sweden, and Gulcicek Gunel Tekin, a writer from Turkey, took part in the discussions.
Ter-Vardanyan stressed that in 2015, on the occasion of the 100th mourning anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Armenia will put a special focus on the genocide topic at the international book fairs. In 2015 Armenia will take part in over 10 book fairs in Paris, London, Frankfurt am Main, Moscow, Minsk and other cities.
The Frankfurt Book Fair was held on October 8-12. The number of participants was over 7,000 from nearly 100 countries.
