Tbilisi. On Tuesday, July 23, the Head of the
Georgian Orthodox Church, Ilia II left for Moscow on the occasion of
celebration of the 1025th anniversary of Christianization of Russia, he will
also meet with President of RF Vladimir Putin.
The events in the framework of
the jubilee will be held in Moscow, Kiyiv and Minsk.
"We are leaving for Moscow,
Kiyiv and Minsk - the Russian Church marks the 1025th jubilee of
Christianization of Russia. We will meet with Patriarch Kirill, other
representatives of the clergy as well as with Presidents. I do hope we will
return with good results", Ilia II told journalists before the Georgian
delegation's leaving for Moscow.
According to Arch-Presbyter
Giorgi Zviadadze, President of RF will meet with Heads of Churches on July 25.
A meeting with President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich has been scheduled for
July 27, the Heads of Churches will meet with President of Byelorussia
Alexander Lukashenko on July 29.
As it was informed earlier, in
Moscow the Georgian Catholicos-Patriarch of All Russia, Archbishop of
Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Pitsunda and Tskhum-Abkhazeti, His
Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II Patriarch was expected to meet with Patriarch of
Moscow and All Russia Kirill. The issue of reburial of remains of two Georgian
Kings - Vakhtang VI and Teimuraz II from Astrakhan to Tbilisi will be discussed
at the meeting.
The head of the Georgian Orthodox
Church Ilia II visited Russia last time in January 2013 on the occasion of awarding him with the
Prize of the International Public Fund
of Orthodox Peoples' Unity.
