Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has asked the CSTO
member countries to help Armenia to receive an observer status in the Shanghai
Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
ITAR-TASS reports that Sargsyan confirmed Armenia's
interest in the Organisation's activities, which make an important contribution
to ensuring of security in the region. "I hope for your support in this
matter", he said to the heads of the states included in both the SCO and
the CSTO (Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan).
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a Eurasian
political, economic and military organisation which was founded in 2001 in
Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan,
and Uzbekistan. The SCO observer countries are Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia,
India and Pakistan.
