The 100 AMD public transport fare may lead to transport collapse in Yerevan, Araz Baghdasaryan, representative of the Municipality of Yerevan, says on his Facebook page.
He thinks that the public transport fare growth is substantiated. "If the tariffs are not increased now, we will face transport collapse in a few weeks. After that the situation will not be saved even by new growth in prices", he stresses. He says that the Municipality has already worked out a strategy to dampen the inflation consequences.
Baghdasaryan calls on all citizens to be restrained and to abstain from insulting remarks about the Municipality and Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan, because they are concerned with the situation most of all. "Our goal is to see the other side of the coin, find solutions, forecast the possible consequences of our actions and, finally, make decisions, the positive results of which will be obvious in the future", he says.
To note, mass actions of protest started in Yerevan on July 20 against the Government's decision on the public transport fare growth. Most drivers are also discontent with the decision, because it has reduced the passenger flow.
