The appointment of Hovik Abrahamyan as prime minister meets the Armenian oligarchs' aspirations, Head of the Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan said at a press conference on Monday.
According to Navasardyan, oligarchy is the most sensitive stratum to any kinds of shocks. Oligarchy exists on the basis of unwritten codes and behind-the-seen agreements, and any abnormal situation poses a deadly threat to the oligarchy. In this light, the appointment of Hovik Abrahamyan has actually reinforced the status quo, because it aims to strengthen the current system in Armenia and to insure the oligarchs against the shocks. Another significant factor that had an impact on Abrahamyan's appointment was the steps of the non-coalition political forces.
"The matter concerns not only the Prosperous Armenia Party, which has declared itself "an alternative force". The matter also concerns the other parties that call for the change of the Government, the authorities in general, as well as for snap elections, but they do not stress the need to change the political course of the country in general", said Navasardyan.
