Russia may use Nagorno- Karabakh as a bait to draw Azerbaijan into the Customs Union, Secretary of Heritage Party Stepan Safaryan told journalists on Wednesday.
"Russia cannot tempt Azerbaijan with oil and gas as it does in the case of Armenia or Ukraine, so, its only bait here is Nagorno-Karabakh," Safaryan said.
He does not think that Russia regards Armenia as a strategic partner. "For Russia Armenia is just a part of the empire it is trying to build, a territory where it has a military base. Armenia has become very vulnerable today: on the one hand, it has ceased to be Russia's partner, on the other, it has lost Europe's support after its refusal to sign the association agreement," Safaryan said.
