Vegamediapress has published Argentinean writer Mariano Saravia's article "Aleppo: 100 Years After."
The author says that the Armenian massacres that took place in the Ottoman Empire 100 years ago are recurring in the Syrian city of Aleppo, with the world community's indifferences making it an accomplice of Turkey and its denialism policy.
"All presidential hopefuls in the United States promised the local Armenian community to recognize the Armenian Genocide. But their goal was just to gain the community's votes, so, once they entered the office they forgot about their promise," Saravia says.
He notes that nothing has changed since 1915. "Over the last decade the Assad regimes guaranteed security to Syria's ethnic and religious minorities, including Armenians. Today the Islamic State is attacking Armenian quarters in Aleppo and other Syrian cities. Those to blame for the Armenian Genocide 100 years ago were the Young Turks and Ataturk. The current attacks by the Islamic State are the result of George Bush's invasion of Iraq and Barrack Obama's operation in Syria. The Americans have called the results of the last bombardments in Syria incidental damages. But we call them innocent victims. Those Armenians who survived the genocide 100 years ago have now forced to leave their homes," Saravia says.
In conclusion, the author remembers Adolf Hitler's words about the Armenian Genocide. "In 1939 Hitler said, "Who now remembers the Armenian Genocide.' He was right – Turkey's indifference and impunity is now causing a new Armenian Genocide, this time in Aleppo. What a twist of fate 100 years after! And as always the organizers are the same," Saravia says.
