Germany is concerned over the tension escalation in the Karabakh conflict zone, German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler said at a press conference on October 2.
He stressed the need to stop the growing the violence and said that the relevant tool to do that is the OSCE Minsk Group. The key goal today is to reduce the tension and to reach a long-lasting settlement through mutual concessions. In this light, he pointed out the need to observe the ceasefire.
Ambassador Kiesler noted that the OSCE Minsk Group tools should be used on full-scale for peaceful settlement of the conflict. Nevertheless, he thinks that not only the co-chairs but also the sides should find ways to resolve the conflict by means of mutual concessions.
To note, on September 24, the tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border sharply ran high. The Azerbaijani armed forces shelled the Armenian settlements, killing three civilians. On September 25, the Azerbaijani troops intensively fired at the Karabakh positions, killing 4 Armenian servicemen and wounding 16. On October 1, the Armenian armed forces prevented one more sabotage attack mounted by Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani servicemen deployed in Nakhijevan attempted to illegally cross the Armenian border. The raiders were found in the neutral zone.
