ArmInfo. Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia and the Central Asia Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction signed a memorandum of cooperation in Almaty.
The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia told ArmInfo that the memorandum was signed by the director of the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Artak Nahapetyan, and the Director of the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction Valery Petrov.
The purpose of the memorandum is to establish interregional cooperation in the process of disaster risk reduction, population protection, raising the level of protection, prevention and rapid response to emergency situations. In particular, it is planned to conduct joint training sessions, exchange of professional experience and joint research.
Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia Hrachya Rostomyan during the meeting with Petrov stated that the signing of the memorandum is the first step in transferring the interaction from the theoretical to the practical level in such areas as disaster risk reduction, rapid response to emergencies and increased cross- border cooperation in disaster management. "When hard days come we are all obliged to unite our efforts, 1since disasters do not recognize either nations, or religions and political boundaries," Rostomyan noted. In turn, Perov stressed that Armenia is the first country in the South Caucasu that made a political decision to initiate interregional cooperation in the field of disaster risk reduction with the Central Asian region. To note the second platform of the program on disaster risk reduction in the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus was held on June 26-27 in Yerevan.
