ArmInfo.The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia is open for cooperation with the Council of Europe on all possible programs aimed at strengthening the institutions for the protection of human rights, developing the capacity of the prosecutor's office and reforming the judicial system. This was announced yesterday by the RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan during a meeting with the head of the Directorate for General Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Christophe Poirel.
According to the press service of the department, Christophe Poirel noted that the Armenian Prosecutor's Office plays a key role in ensuring guarantees of human rights, especially in the criminal justice system, which creates great opportunities for joint work in this area.
During the meeting, issues relating to the protection of human rights arising from a number of provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as the process of fulfilling commitments to implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights adopted in respect of Armenian citizens, were discussed.
Christoph Poirel expressed the hope that the introduction of new mechanisms to protect the rights of persons, especially those undergoing criminal proceedings, as well as the work on the development of a new Criminal Code will be completed as soon as possible. He highly appreciated the role of the RA Prosecutor's Office in this process.
