The working group established by the decision of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, coordinating the work on garbage collection and recycling, which is headed by the Prime Minister's Chief Advisor Arsen Gasparyan, is starting the first phase of work. According to the press service of the government, the program "Research of the amount and composition of waste" starts in cooperation with the Acopian Center for the Environment of the American University of Armenia. The program's partner is the Eunomia Research & Consulting British company
The program will study the amount and composition of municipal solid waste, including construction, industrial, electrical and electronic, agricultural and horticultural, medical, automotive waste. The research will determine the energy value of the waste.
The project will involve Armenian and foreign experts. The results of the study will contribute to the development and implementation by the Government of Armenia of a comprehensive waste management policy based on the principles of a circular economy. The goal of the program is to obtain information for making decisions about investments in waste collection, recycling and the use of their energy.
