ArmInfo. The Armenian side intends to consistently carry out work to protect the rights of citizens of Armenia and Artsakh who find themselves on the territory of Azerbaijan and seek their return to their homeland. Spokesperson of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan stated this on March 20 at a press conference in Yerevan.
Answering the question about the fate of Karen Ghazaryan, a resident of the Tavush region, who was sentenced by the Azerbaijani authorities to 20 years in prison, Anna Naghdalyan noted that the work is being done, but it is not yet subject to public discussion.
Touching on the fate of two other Armenians - Armen Baghdasaryan and Zaven Karapetyan, Naghdalyan once again emphasized that work is being done on all cases, and everything is being done to ensure the rights of compatriots who find themselves on Azerbaijani territory. To note, today 3 Armenians are in captivity in Azerbaijan, two of them are accused of committing grave crimes and sentenced to 15 and 20 years in prison. The judicial sentence against the last Armenian citizen Karen Ghazaryan, who came over to Azerbaijan in July 2018 and had serious health problems, presented the Azerbaijani side as a saboteur and in February sentenced him to 20 years in a high-security prison. Thus, the Azerbaijani side is trying to recoup on the Armenian side for the fact that Azerbaijani saboteurs Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Askerov are serving time in Artsakh for the murder of a 17-year-old youth and injuring a woman. Last week, the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Alvin Alif oglu Ibrahimov, crossed the Armenian- Azerbaijani state border in the Tavush region, and the incident is now being investigated.
