The project of "Mitigating the Impact of Climate Change in Armenia through Developing the Potential of Forest and Field Fire Management" was implemented within the framework of Climate Change Window in the Russia-UNDP Trust Fund. On March 17, Dmitry Mariyasin, Resident Representative of United Nations Development Programme stated in the Khosrov Forest National Reserve within the framework of the UNDP "Mitigating the Impact of Climate Change in Armenia through Developing the Potential of Forest and Field Fire Management"
According to him, it was through this line that the financing of this project was allocated, the logic of which is to assist the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations in preventing the negative effects of climate change. "This is the case when we are not just talking about the significance of climate change, but also trying to do something concrete so that the country can more effectively cope with the consequences of sometimes unpredictable weather events, many of which are associated with climate change," Mariyasin stated assuring that cooperation in this direction is part of a wider range of programs that are conducted with the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia. The head of the UNDP Yerevan Office believes that the RA Ministry of Nature Protection has a long-term and strategic vision for the development of this sector. To note, within the framework of the UN Development Program "Mitigating the Impact of Climate Change in Armenia through Developing the Potential of Forest and Field Fire Management", 360 firefighters from Armenia received special equipment and tools designed to fight forest fires in remote areas. The total amount of the program was about 1 million dollars. The program was implemented through the UN and fully funded by the Russian Federation with the active support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, as well as the Ministry of Nature Protection and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia.
