As French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacote told at a press conference in Yerevan on March 6, the cultural days of Francophonie will start on March 11 and will last until April 12.
The Ambassador stated that after the successful holding of the 17th OIF Summit in Armenia, the French language and culture are becoming increasingly popular in the territory of Armenia. "Francophonie culture will again be popular in Armenia in March and April of this year, as part of the events held around the world in connection with the Day of Francophonie, which is celebrated on March 20. The events held within the framework of Francophonie will strengthen the role of French language in Armenia, the language that ranks 5th by the number of speakers in the world, 4th by the number using it in the network, 3rd as the language of business, and together with English it is the language spoken on 5 continents, "the Ambassador stressed.
At the same time, he stressed that the events will start from the 3rd festival of Francophonie films, which will be shown in the Moscow Cinema from March 11-18. "The festival will be held within the framework of the Days of Francophonie in Armenia with the cooperation of the French Embassy with the diplomatic missions of Switzerland, Canada and Belgium in Armenia. The films will be shown in the Moscow cinema. Admission is free. The festival will show various films from 2013-2019. In general, there are 11 films with Armenian and Russian subtitles, among which it would be desirable to highlight three films: "The King and His People" (< Un peuple et son roi >) about the French Revolution, the < Armenie(s), le Temps des Artistes>, documentary film (author Anahit Dasseux Ter Mesropian, directed by David Vital Durand and produced by Rappi Productions (France)) and "The big bath" (< Le grand bain >), the French diplomat said.
Also, according to him, on March 21-22, French gastronomy "Gout de France" will take place, in which 23 restaurants will take part in Yerevan, Gyumri and Dilijan. In addition, Lacote informed that on March 23 in Alliance Francaise a competition of written French "Dis-moi dix mots" (Say ten words) will ve held, during which a series of gifts will be drawn, including a trip to France. "Also the 3rd Francophone Youth Theatre Festival will be held in Goris on March 28-30. More than 80 young people will attend the event from Yerevan, Charentsavan, Hrazdan, Echmiadzin and of course Goris. The days of Francophonie will be completed by the "Data Science, Social Science" Forum, which will be held from April 10 to April 12 with the cooperation of the National Academy of Sciences, the French University of Armenia and the Toulouse Institute of Computer Studies. The forum will discuss issues such as the impact of societies on artificial intelligence, the challenges of cybersecurity, the protection of personal data, " the Ambassador said.
He also urged to take part in the conference "Woman: Business and Information Technologies", which will be held on March 7. In conclusion, the Ambassador stressed that their goal was to increase the success of the 17th summit of the OIF in Yerevan, to consolidate all those involved in the French-speaking family, to demonstrate their involvement in all regions of Armenia, and to expand the involvement of the French language, which in turn would strengthen the position of Yerevan in Francophonie family. He also recalled that during the annual dinner of the Coordinating Council of the Armenian organizations of France, President of France Emmanuel Macron announced the beginning of the fundraising, in the framework of which 1 mln euros have already been raised.
