ArmInfo.The idea of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to hold a march on March 1 gives us, the relatives of the victims of March 1, 2008, the hope that 11 years after that day, real steps are being taken to solve this crime and bring those responsible to justice. This is stated in a statement circulated by the relatives of the victims on March 1, 2008.
The statement reads, in part: "We have waited for many years for the day when the murderers of our relatives are brought to justice and punished with the utmost rigor of the law. The new government has already taken the necessary steps to demonstrate its will to fulfill our requirements. We believe that the March 1 march, organized at the state level, is one of the steps to solve this crime. We urge everyone to take part in the march on March 1, in memory of our relatives, who gave their lives for freedom and democracy in Armenia."
To note, on February 21, Nikol Pashinyan announced that on March 1, at 6:30pm, a procession dedicated to the events of March 1, 2008 will take place from Freedom Square in Yerevan.
To recall, on March 1, 2008, the Armenian police used force against citizens conducting a peaceful rally on Freedom Square in Yerevan in protest against the rigged presidential elections. Rallies lasted about 10 days. As a result of the use of force, the police killed 10 people. The names of the killers to this day are not disclosed.
