ArmInfo. The history of the Russian armed forces is closely and inextricably linked with the history of the Armenian people. On February 23, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin stated this during the ceremony of laying flowers to the Eternal Flame in front of the monument "Mother Armenia" on the Day of Defender of the Fatherland.
The Ambassador congratulated all the people who serve in defending Russia and Armenia. He noted that Armenians also contributed to the development of the Russian armed forces. "In those victories, in those glorious victories of Russian Soviet weapons, the entire history of our Armed Forces was marked. And today, the alliance of Russia and Armenia is a guarantee for security not only of both countries but also of the region," Kopyrkin stressed.
The Russian Ambassador to Armenia noted that the 102nd Russian base is located in Gyumri, and Russian border guards are involved in the protection of the Armenian border. "Certainly, this is a very significant contribution of Russia to ensuring the security of the Republic of Armenia," the Ambassador stressed, noting that this is a reflection of the militant fraternity and fraternal relations between nations, which characterize almost the entire centuries-old history of these relations.
To note, the day of the Armenian army is officially celebrated on January 28. However, the Defender of the Fatherland Day in Russia is celebrated on February 23. Since 1922 it was the Day of the Red Army, since 1946 - the Day of the Soviet Army, in the 2000s it was renamed the Defender of the Fatherland Day.
